Dr. Fontes was offered an opportunity to discuss with Patty Jackson, why NewView Institute was developed and what services it provides for the community. The citizens of Philadelphia are suffering from the result of gun violence and other violent crimes, including domestic violence, sexual abuse, assault, robbery, and homicide. Unfortunately, if an individual is involved in a crime at the time of their injury or death, Victims Compensation will not pay for counseling services for the grief stricken loved ones who have been left behind.  Therefore, we are presenting our 1st annual “Brooch of Elegance” and the proceeds from the event will be used to pay for these much needed counseling services.  During this event we will honor women of color who have been appointed as the first in their field to occupy positions formerly led by men.  We will be honoring our first female Sheriff, Rochelle Bilal, Commissioner Blanche Carney, Register of Wills, Tracey Gordon, President Dixie P. James, and Sergeant Liana Stevens.
